AI Disclosure

Plagiarism Today is a website written by, myself, Jonathan Bailey. It has been that way since it was established in 2005.

As a believer in the value of human creativity, I promise that I will not use generative AI tools to write any of the content on this website, make editorial decisions, or use AI as a source information.

Any time that AI is used to write something, it will be used in an illustrative way and will be clearly disclosed.

That said, there are limited circumstances in which AI may come in contact with the content on this site, and I wish to be transparent about those circumstances.

Editing

As a sole author, editing my own work has been a major challenge. I have in the past used and continue to use a variety of tools to help me with that process. That has involved a several advanced grammar checkers and related tools, many of which describe themselves as “AI-powered.”

This includes but is not limited to: Grammarly, LanguageTool, Hemingway and Apple’s built-in tools.

In no case do I use the text generation features of these tools. They are solely used to correct spelling, grammar, and clarity.

Typing

As per my recent article, I’ve been experimenting with a variety of AI autocomplete tools to speed up typing. These tools do not make editorial decisions or perform any other functions than a traditional autocomplete tool. That said, some suggestions could introduce AI language, which is part of why I’m testing them.

Images

Images on this site are sourced either from the subjects of the articles or from stock photography websites, most commonly Canva, as well as other sources such as, but not limited to, Wikimedia Commons, Pexels, Unsplash, and Pixabay.

While these images are presented as human-created, it is impossible to be 100% certain of their authenticity. If you see an image that you suspect is AI-generated, please contact me. I will review the image and replace it if that is the case.

Other AI images may be used for illustrative purposes within articles. Those will be clearly labeled and will be part of the topic being discussed.

Programming

This site operates using the WordPress platform. The various plugins, themes and other tools used all predate wide availability of AI. However, it is impossible for me to know if AI-generated code has been used in this software or will be used in the future.

Most of the software used is open source and the nature of such development makes it difficult to determine if AI-generated code is being used or not.

That said, I will be monitoring the various tools used and will likely steer away from those using AI not only out of AI concerns (including legal and ethical) but also due to potential security issues.
