Are Let’s Plays Legal?

Video Game ImageLast week we looked at the recent dust up involving PewDiePie, YouTube’s most-subscribed channel.

PewDiePie was caught using a racial slur during a live stream, which prompted Campo Santo, developers of the game FireWatch, to file a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notice against him to have his Let’s Play video of the game removed.

This raised a great deal of controversy and questions including a simple one: Are Let’s Plays legal?

This is a thorny issue where even a “licensed” Let’s Play could find itself subject to a DMCA notice at at almost any time. So, in this video we take a deep dive into the issue and try to hash out, as best we can, whether or not Let’s Play videos are legal.
