1: T.I., Tiny Win Whopping $71 Million Award at OMG Girlz Trial

First off, today, Nancy Dillon at RollingStone reports that rapper and producer T.I. and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, have won a $71 million judgment against toy company MGA Entertainment over a line of popular dolls.

The couple filed the lawsuit alleging that MGA’s line of L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls infringed on various rights they held in the teen pop group OMG GIrlz. In the third trial in the dispute, the jury found that 15 of the 30 dolls violated one or more of the rights they held in the group.

The jury awarded $17.9 million in actual damages and $53.6 million in punitive damages. The first trial ended in a mistrial and a second trial was overturned following a Supreme Court decision in another case. It is unclear if MGA plans to appeal this verdict.

2: Italy Intensifies Crackdown on Pay-TV Piracy

Next up today, Branislav Pekic at Advanced Television reports that Italian authorities are looking to strengthen their anti-piracy efforts by targeting those who pirate pay TV content online.

The country currently operates Piracy Shield, a system that blocks sites suspected of streaming pirated content. The system currently blocks 1,000 domains and more than 500 IP addresses.

However, authorities are now seeking to expand the system to obtain information about individuals engaged in piracy. With that information, they would be able to impose fines between €150 and €15,000 ($165 to $16,500), as per a law passed last year. It is unclear when the new plans are likely to take effect.

3: Ice Spice Reaches Settlement To End Copyright Lawsuit Over Hit Song ‘In Ha Mood’

Finally, today, Bill Donahue at Billboard reports that rapper Ice Spice has reached a settlement to end a lawsuit over her 2023 hit song In Ha Mood.

The lawsuit was filed by rapper D.Chamberz, who alleged that Ice Spice’s song was strikingly similar to his 2021 track In That Mood. The lawsuit targeted not only Ice Spice, but also her producer and various music companies.

Ice Spice denied the allegations, but the case is now to be dismissed as the two sides have reached an agreement to end the lawsuit. The terms of that deal have not been disclosed.
