1: Locast Streaming Hit With Permanent Injunction in Copyright Case

First off today, David McAfee at Bloomberg Law reports that Locast, a now-shuttered service for streaming over-the-air television online, has been hit with a permanent injunction that bars it from operating.

Locast was a service that allowed users to stream over-the-air broadcast television online in about 30 markets. It was attempting to use an exemption under the law that allowed non-profit services to retransmit such signals without a license. However, the major TV networks sued and, after a court determined it was not non-profit as defined in the law, the service opted to close down.

However, that didn’t stop the TV networks from seeking a permanent injunction against the service. That injunction has now been granted though Locast could move to stay the injunction pending an appeal if they wish.

2: UK Police Close Illegal Streaming Network

Next up today, Colin Mann at Advanced Television reports that, in the UK, the West Midlands Police and the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) have teamed up to take down an illegal streaming network that they claim provided access to content to 100 separate pirate TV services and, potentially, hundreds of thousands of customers.

In addition to shuttering the network, three people were arrested on suspicion of copyright infringement, fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud. Those that were accessing the network have had their streams replaced with an on-scree message informing them that the content was unlawful.

The move is just the latest in a series of similar shutdowns across the UK. In one similar case, a man received a 16-month sentence for illegally supplying such pirated content.

3: Deathloop PC Stuttering Issue Apparently Not Caused by Anti-Piracy

Finally today, Kat Bailey at IGN reports that Alexander Battaglia from Digital Foundry has been testing the PC version of the recently-released game Deathloop and has found that, despite receiving widespread blame, the issue with the title are not related to the Denuvo anti-piracy system.

When Deathloop was released, it performed reasonably well on consoles, but PC gamers complained of performance issues, even on higher-end machines. Many quickly placed the blame on Denuvo, an anti-piracy system that shipped with Deathloop on PC but not on the console versions.

However, according to independent testing, the stuttering and other issues within the game itself, including framerate issues and mouse jitter problem. Neither of these issues are related to Denuvo in any way.
