Heading to SXSWi 2016!
It seems that I’ve fallen into something of a strange pattern when it comes to SXSWi.
2011 was the first one I sent a proposal for, I was rejected. However, in 2012 I was accepted and sat on a panel entitled “American Copyright: Will the Government Go Too Far?“. For 2013 my proposed panels were rejected but, in 2014, I was accepted again and did a two person panel with Katie Sunstrom on revenge pornography.
SXSWi 2015 was another miss for me but, it’s another even year and that means (apparently) that I’ll be heading to heading to SXSWi 2016, this time as part of a panel entitled “Digital Content & The Legality of Web Scraping“.
As with the other two times I’ve spoken there, I’ll be teaming up with the great Katie Sunstrom but this panel will have us teaming up with the amazing and brilliant Rami Essaid at Distil Networks.
Distil is a company I’ve covered before and they are a web service that works to block bad bots, including scrapers, as well as speed up websites.
I’m very excited about this talk, I feel between the three of us we have great input on the technology of scraping (including blocking it), the impact of scraping and the legal climate on the matter. It should be a great conversation and I’m hoping very useful for the crowd.
I don’t have the exact time and place for the talk at this juncture. However, SXSWi will be from March 11-15, 2016 in Austin, TX. I’ll post additional details when I see them.
Also, as always, even if you’re not able to make the talk. If you’re in town at the time and want to meet up, let me know. I always try to make myself available to anyone who wants to talk.
All in all, I’m really excited about SXSWi and hope to see you there! It’s going to be a great conversation and a great year!
