1: Zillow and CoStar Spar in First Hearing Over Copyright Infringement Claims

First off today, Jesse Williams at RISMedia reports that CoStar and Zillow had a hearing where the two parties sparred over who was responsible for the alleged infringement and whether New York was the proper venue.

CoStar, a real estate information company, sued the real estate website Zillow over alleged infringement of thousands of its photographs. According to CoStar, Zillow used its images, many of which contained its watermark, to promote services and properties on its site. Zillow claims users uploaded the photos and that, under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), it is not liable.

In addition to the DMCA questions, the two parties sparred over jurisdiction, with CoStar hoping to keep the case in New York while Zillow wants it moved to Seattle, where their headquarters are. No ruling has been made on either question.

2: Legal Battle Erupts Between Korean Copyright Groups Over ₩100 Billion in Unclaimed YouTube Royalties

Next up today, Korea Bizwire reports that Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) has been accused by the Korean Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (KOSCAP) of mismanaging royalties received from YouTube.

At issue is over 100 billion won ($72 million) in royalties that KOSCAP says KOMCA withheld. KOSCAP alleges that KOMCA never notified them of the royalties and held them in their own accounts for years, while paying out only to their members.

KOMCA, however, claims it has since settled verified claims with KOSCAP and has not received such royalties from YouTube since 2022. As for other claims, KOMCA said it will begin notifying creators on the 17th on how to claim royalties.

3: Reddit Banned 709 Subreddits for Repeat Copyright Violations in First Half of 2025

Finally, today, Ernesto Van der Sar at Torrentfreak writes that, according to a recent transparency report, Reddit banned 709 subreddits over alleged repeated copyright infringement.

Reddit saw an increase in notices compared to either half of 2024. However, less content was removed. This was partly because each notice contained fewer links and also because fewer links were acted on. Reddit has sharply increased the number of links it did not act on due to fair use concerns.

Compared to 2022 and 2023, Reddit has seen a sharp decline in the number of notices filed and the number of links involved. Likewise, the percentage of content it removes has also dropped, albeit by much less.
