1: Radio host Paul Harvey’s estate sues Paramount over ‘Landman’ voiceover
First off today, Blake Brittain at Reuters reports that the estate of radio personality Paul Harvey has filed a lawsuit against Paramount over a segment from an episode of the TV show Landman.
According to the lawsuit, Paramount used a 90-second clip from a 2008 Paul Harvey segment titled Gas Crisis. They allege that the use was unauthorized and had been edited to distort Harvey’s actual opinions on the topic. They further claim that they attempted to contact Paramount but never received a response
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages related to the alleged copyright infringement. Paramount has not commented on the lawsuit.
2: ACE Shuts Down Filma24, Albania’s Movie Piracy Juggernaut
Next up today, Ernesto Van der Sar at Torrentfreak writes that the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) has secured the closure of Filma24, one of the most popular pirate websites in Albania.
Filma24 has been active for at least five years and has largely evaded attempts to shutter it. Though smaller than many major pirate sites, it was one of the most popular in Albania. However, now all of the site’s domains have been seized and are currently redirecting to a page on the ACE website.
Despite the site’s closure, others have popped up using the same branding.
3: Pharrell Williams Goes To War In $14M Suit Over BBC Clothing Ripoff
Finally, today, Grouchy Greg Watkins at AllHipHop reports Pharrell Williams has filed a lawsuit against the print-on-demand company Spreadshirt over alleged copyright infringement.
Williams is a half-owner of the clothing line Billionaire Boys Club (BBC). According to the lawsuit, Spreadshirt has repeatedly allowed its users to print and sell counterfeit merchandise. They further allege that Spreadshirt’s “white label” packaging further aids in the infringement.
As such, BBC is suing for copyright and trademark infringement. The lawsuit is seeking $14 million in damages as well as injunctive relief.
