1: Plies Sues Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, GloRilla & Soulja Boy

First off today, London Jennn at AllHipHop reports that Florida rapper Piles has filed a lawsuit against Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, GloRilla and Soulja Boy, claiming that they all infringed his 2008 song Me & My Goons.

The lawsuit targets the Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla song “Wanna Be.” Cardi B is being sued for appearing on the remix. Soulja Boy is being sued for Big Draco’s Pretty Boy Swag song, which Piles alleges is also an infringement of Me & My Goons.

Megan Thee Stallion’s producer has responded to the lawsuit on social media, saying that the sample in question comes from a different song released two years before Piles’ track.

2: “Zero Tolerance”: WEBTOON Cracks Down On Pirates in New $700k+ Copyright Lawsuit

Next up today, Chike Nwaenie at CBR reports that the South Korean company Naver Webtoon, has filed a 1 billion won ($714,000) lawsuit against the alleged operators “illegal websites” that featured pirated content.

The lawsuit targets three unnamed defendants, all previously arrested for alleged piracy. The defendants are accused of operating two separate piracy websites, with the company seeking 500 million won for each site.

Back in January, the company used a series of DMCA subpoenas to unmask alleged pirate site operators. However, it is unclear if those subpoenas were involved in this lawsuit.

3: Cloudflare to EU: Anti-Piracy Measures Shouldn’t Harm Privacy and Security

Finally, today, Ernesto Van der Sar at Torrentfreak writes that Cloudflare is asking the European Union Commission to exclude them from the upcoming piracy watch list. According to them, the watch list should not be a tool for pushing policy changes.

The list, which the United States has a similar version, is meant to call out nations, businesses, and sites that are not doing enough to prevent piracy. During the public comment period, several rightsholders have called out Cloudflare for hosting pirate websites and not disclosing information about operators.

However, Cloudflare argues that its service is vital for privacy and security. They note that their service has many positive elements, which the other filers have ignored. They also encourage rightsholders to target the actual online markets where piracy occurs rather than middlemen such as themselves.
