Speaking at WordCamp New Orleans

Do you know what it means to speak in New Orleans?

WordCamp NOLA LogoOver the 11 years I’ve been running Plagiarism Today, I’ve been very fortunate to be able to speak at a wide variety of events.

It started with WordCamp Dallas 2008 and since then has seen me travel the world in speaking engagements in the UK, the Netherlands and Hungary among others.

However, one thing I’ve never done is get a chance to speak in my home town of New Orleans.

Fortunately, that’s about to change. On August 13th (my birthday interestingly enough), I’ll be speaking at WordCamp NOLA. My topic will be Protecting Your Content: Stopping Scrapers, Spammers and Plagiarists.

WordCamps, for those who don’t know, are small, local conferences focused on WordPress, a wildly-popular open source content management system. It’s the system that powers Plagiarism Today as well as millions of other websites all over the world.

My topic at WordCamp NOLA is similar to the ones I did at WordCamp and OpenCamp Dallas but a lot has changed in the eight years and I’m really excited to update the WordPress community on what’s new.

So, if you’re in the New Orleans area and want to attend, here’s the information you need to know

Location & Date

WordCamp NOLA will be held on Saturday, August 13th from 8:30 AM to 5 PM at Tulane’s Lavin-Bernick Center. The address for the venue is:

201 Boggs, New Orleans, LA 70118

There’s some street parking available nearby but the event is also off the St. Charles streetcar line, making it a great way to get to the event if you’re a local.

If you need a hotel, the conference has booked a room block with the Clarion Hotel Grand Boutique, which is a short streetcar ride to the conference.

Tickets

Tickets are available on the WordCamp NOLA site for $20. However, they are limited so, if you are interested, I’d grab one as soon as possible.

Bottom Line

All in all, I’m very excited about this event. I’ve already met a lot of the organizers and other speakers through local WordPress meetups and I’m very excited to be able to present in front of a local audience.

So, if you’re in the area and are interested, come out and meet up. I can’t think of a better way to spend a birthday than speaking with great friends and fellow WordPress aficionados.
