Video Log Update – 06/01/12 – Takedown Special

For those who haven’t been following, I’ve been doing a daily video log series where I talk about copyright and/or plagiarism issues that are relevant, newsworthy or otherwise interesting to me for one reason or another. You can find the videos on my YouTube channel.

This week was a short one due to a holiday weekend in the U.S. However, there were a lot of interesting and powerful copyright stories to talk about.

First, we took a look at the Jay Lee/Candice Schwager dispute and how exactly legitimate DMCA notices can go so horribly wrong. This was an issue later revisted both on Plagiarism Today itself and in the podcast.

After that, we took a look at one site’s rather unique policy regarding DMCA notices, namely charging filers of DMCA notices for the privilege of having them processed.

And finally, we took a look at Google’s new transparency report, which throws the lid of the copyright takedowns it performs and what it means for copyright holders and researchers alike.

All in all, it was a short but busy week for the video log.
