New Host, New Blog

layered-tech-logo.pngIf things seem a little bit “faster” around here today, there is a good reason for that. Over this past weekend I moved this site, as well as all of the others I have worked on, to a brand-new VPS provided by Layered Technologies.

Right now, thanks in large part to optimizations I performed on my old host, we are using up a very small percentage of the server’s resources and this has both drastically improved speed and given us plenty of room to grow.

And grow we shall. I am already planning new features on Plagiarism Today that will take advantage of these new resources and will, hopefully, better serve the readers of this site.

New Blog: Inelegant Solutions

inelegant-solutions-logo.pngAs part of this expansion, I am announcing the launch of a new blog today: Inelegant Solutions.

This new site is a personal blog for me and will deal with a wide variety of topics including entertainment, technology, love, money, etc all of it, centered around the theme of “creative” problem solving.

If you’ve ever read Plagiarism Today and enjoyed the writing on it but wished I would talk about something else from time to time, this is your chance.

Right now the blog needs a lot of work, the theme is fairly stock, there is only one post and two pages up. However, I plan to grow it pretty quickly, posting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and I want anyone interested in it to be able to follow along.

Expect to see rapid changes on the site over the next few months. In the meantime, feel free to subscribe to the RSS feed and keep on top of what’s news.

Hopefully it will provide some entertainment and a break from the, occasionally, heavy world of copyright and plagiarism.

A Few Personal Notes

I want to take a few moments to first thank my former host Media Temple for providing me with great service and great support over the years I have been with them. I want to make it clear that this move was not because I had any issue with them, but because I needed to combine all of my sites and make room for future endeavors.

In the long run, I am hoping that this move will help save money, increase performance and encourage growth. However, for many sites, Media Temple is likely an ideal solution and, though I don’t think recommendations are worth much when it comes picking a host, I would gladly recommend MT to anyone it was appropriate for.

Second, I’ve gone through and made all of the changes that should be needed for the site to work in this environment, but if you see any wonkiness or other issues, let me know.

Finally, also get in touch with me if you have any questions or ideas for how this site can best use its new home. I’ll be happy to listen to any ideas you may have.

Conclusions

Thank you all for your support of this site over the years and I am very excited about what the future holds, both for Plagiarism Today and Inelegant Solutions.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback on these changes and am excited to see what new ideas we all come up with.

Thank you again for all of your support!
