The 4th International Plagiarism Conference is just six months away and now is the best time to secure your tickets.

I’m a bit late in reporting this, but I wanted to let everyone know that the 4th International Plagiarism Conference is scheduled for June 21-23 at Northumbria University in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in the UK.

I attended and spoke at the 3rd conference in 2008 and it was a great conference with a lot to see and do.

If you’re interested in plagiarism issues and are able to go, I would definitely recommend doing so. If you’re intersted, here are some of the basics of the event.

Basic Info

The themes for this year’s conference are as follows:

Creating a culture of honesty.

Ensuring authenticity in non text-based disciplines and multimedia.

Addressing non-traditional learning styles.

Ensuring the integrity of research and published work.

Open theme. Suggested topics include: innovative assessment techniques beyond the essay, the changing nature of authorship in a Web 2.0 world, contract cheating, plagiarism detection, etc.

The conference focuses mostly on academic plagiarism issues but much of the discussion about technology and honesty also have great bearing on plagiarism issues outside of the classroom, including the Web.

There is currently an early bird special through the end of the year to attend the conference for £260.00 but the amount will rise after the new year to £180.00 per day or £360.00 for the entire conference two-day event.

The keynote speakers this year include:

Isabel Nisbet, Acting Chief Executive, Ofqual

Jude Carroll, Deputy Director of the ASKe CETL at Oxford Brookes University, UK.

Dr Teddi Fishman, Director of the Center for Academic Integrity, US.

Adrian Slater, Head of Legal Services at the University of Leeds, UK.

As well as a slew of unannounced workshop speakers. All in all, it’s two days with the brightest mind in plagiarism, especially academic plagiarism, from all over the world.

Be sure to visit the official site for the conference for more information.

Personal

I won’t be speaking at this year’s event, sadly for legal reasons I wasn’t able to propose my paper until after the workshops had filled up, but will most likely be submitting a paper and possibly a video presentation.

I’m going to to try to attend it this year but a lot of that is going to depend on other variables in my life, including my new job, so I can not make any commitments at this time. I will, however, keep you posted.

Bottom Line

If you’re in the area or otherwise are able to attend this event, I highly recommend it. It was one of the best-spent conferences I’ve ever been to and it was a real honor to meet many of the people I’ve worked with in the past and make new friends along the way.

It’s definitely a great conference and it has the benefit of taking place in a great school in a great city.

I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Note: For some reason my Flickr gallery of the previous conference doesn’t seem to be working. I am going to try and repair it this weekend.

For those who are interested in following the happenings at the 3rd International Plagiarism Conference, I will be providing regular updates from the conference.

As I mentioned last week, I will be spending almost the whole of this week in England attending the 3rd International Plagiarism Conference.

For those who are interested in what is going on and want updates to the conference, I will be semi-liveblogging it via Twitter. If you are interested, you can subscribe to my Twitter account and get regular updates on the conference as well as pictures and video as time and technology allow.

I do have to caution that on this trip I will not have my cell phone. Since the phone will not work at all in the UK due to the network I am on, I am simply not going to bring it. Thus, that may limit the number of tweets I am able to send out. I will, however, have my EeePC and, hopefully, reliable Internet access. It will be an interesting experiment if nothing else.

I will provide updates as regularly as I can and, no matter what, will provide a complete wrap-up on my return.

Hope to see some of you there!

It will be a slower time the next two weeks as I prepare for the 3rd International Plagiarism Conference in Newcastle-upon-tyne, UK.

It may be something of a slower week this one and next here at Plagiarism Today. I am gearing up to leave this Saturday to head to England to speak at the 3rd International Plagiarism Conference.

I’ll be posting some this week and forward-posting articles for next, but my hours will be limited until Saturday, when I leave, and I’ll be almost out of touch until I return that Thursday.

I will be liveblogging the event the best I can while I am there. You will be able to follow me while I am gone on my Twitter account. That will depend upon Internet access.

In the meantime, updates to Plagiarism Today may be a little bit slower and shorter than usual. Please bear with me as I go through trip preparations while trying to write content for both this week and next.

Finally, if anyone is from the Newcastle area in England or otherwise plans to be at the conference, please let me know so I can arrange to meet you.

Thank you for your understanding.
