It's an annual Halloween tradition at Plagiarism Today as I take a few days away to finish my haunted house and get ready for opening night!

Regular readers of this site know that it’s something of a tradition for me to slow down posting during the month of October as I prepare my charity haunted house for opening Halloween weekend. However, this year I’ve done “Creepy Copyright” mondays in October, which has included posts about Zombies, Vampires and, most recently, Frankenstein’s monster.

Though I’ve kept up regular posting all month, I’ve reached the point where it’s definitely crunch time and I can’t maintain both the posting schedule here, client work and haunt preparations. There’s a lot to do before Friday night and I need to spend less time on a keyboard and more time with a paintbrush.

So, starting tomorrow, I’ll be largely taking off from normal PT duties. I’ll still be doing the live recording of the Copyright 2.0 Show at 5 PM ET tomorrow and posting it Friday, but there will be no 3 Count columns and no regular posts until Monday, when I’ll have my final “Creepy Copyright” segment, this one focusing on great public domain horror movies to check out on Halloween night.

Everything should return to normal come Tuesday, November 1st though I may decide to recover that day and just come back on the 2nd.

In the meantime, enjoy a brief respite from Plagiarism Today and enjoy your Halloween!

With Mardi Gras coming up this Tuesday, I'll be taking some time away from the computer to celebrate and unwind...

For those who aren’t from the New Orleans area or the gulf coast in general, Mardi Gras is this coming Tuesday, March 8th and, as is usual for me, I’ll be out of the office on Mardi Gras day and the Monday before.

I’ll be going through today and this evening emptying out my inbox and touching base with all of my clients that have active projects or proposals. However, I will not be in the office or posting on Plagiarism Today this coming Monday or Tuesday.

On that note, if you happen to be in the city, you may see me along the parade routes, in the French Quarter or just milling about enjoying the time off. If you do, definitely stop and say hello.

Otherwise I will see you guys again on Wednesday. Until then, have a happy Mardi Gras!

As part of a push to bring the site up to code, I've updated four of the seven pages in the "Stopping Internet Plagiarism" section of the site.

The “Stopping Internet Plagiarism” section of this site has been a cornerstone of it since day one. It’s the part of the site that explains, to newcomers and veterans alike, how to find and stop misuse of one’s content.

However, the section has become woefully neglected over the years and that has led to a lot of decay in the quality of that part of the site.

Some of the problems have been purely aesthetic, as style guidelines on PT changed that section was not updated, but much of it is factual due to new services coming online and old ones dying off.

I’ve finally decided to go through and overhaul the section. Both bring it up to the style codes of the rest of the site but also update the language and information. I’m doing the entire section in two parts split over two weeks.

Today I’m proud to announce that the first part of this process is done. The main Stopping Internet Plagiarism page has been overhauled completely and the How to Find Plagiarism, Contacting a Plagiarist and Finding the Host have also been updated.

I wouldn’t call these updates a complete rewrite, much of the original text is still there, but I’ve updated the styles, added new images, removed outdated elements and added in new ones as needed.

The changes included in this update are:

Complete rewrite of main “Stopping Internet Plagiarism” page to act as a link list to the other sections.

Added Plagium, FairShare and Tineye mentions to the “How to Find Plagiarism” page.

Changed language in the “Contacing the Plagiarist” page and included a direct link to this site’s stock letters.

Added WhoIsHostingThis and updated images in the “Finding the Host” page.

Edited for styling and added images to every page.

Next week I plan on updating the remaining three pages in the section, all of which should require much less work, and that should bring the entire section up to code.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts of suggestions for this section as these pages are easily among the most popular on the site and I want to make sure they are some of the best Plagiarism Today has to offer.

It's that time again, I'm getting ready to hit the road and head to WordCamp Dallas. If you can't attend, here is how you can follow along!

Hello everyone. I apologize in advance for the lack of updates today as there won’t be a 3 Count column or the usual PT update. I am currently scrambling like a madman to finish all of my preparations for WordCamp Dallas. I’m heading up this evening and will be gone through Monday afternoon so there won’t be any formal updates between now and then.

However, there are several ways you can follow along and get updates while I’m gone.

You can follow me on my Twitter account as I’ll be posting updates from the road the entire time I’m gone.

GeekBrief.TV will be livestreaming the entire event so you’ll likely be able to catch at least some of my presentation that way. I am currently scheduled for 2:30 PM CT (3:30 PM ET) on Saturday.

I’ll be updating this post closer in with the actual slides from my talk so you can download them and even follow along.

Also, due to the scheduling difficulties, Patrick O’Keefe and I will be doing a special edition of the Copyright 2.0 Show at 10:30 AM CT (11:30 AM CT) today. Feel free to join us via Talkshoe for the live recording. However, the show most likely will not be posted until Tuesday so be prepared for a delay in getting it online.

On that note, thank you very much for your patience and I look forward to seeing many of you at WordCamp Dallas in a few days!

With a slow day today and the site needing some maintenance, I decided I want to give today's post over to you and listen to what you want to see on Plagiarism Today. So let me know how this site can be serve your needs.

I have to spend most of this morning, including much of my usual blogging time, catching up on some other writing and doing some repairs/maintenance to the site, mostly residual stuff from the recent move. So I won’t be able to do a full update today.

However, I wanted to take a moment and ask everyone reading this what they wanted to know more about on Plagiarism Today. Below in this post I’ve added a widget from the site Skribit that will allow you to post suggestions and vote on existing ones anonymously. I’ve added a few topics that I have mentioned previously to get things started.

If you would prefer, you can also leave a comment to this post or simply send me an email, either via the contact form or by just writing to jonathan at plagiarismtoday dot com.

So what do you want to read about on Plagiarism Today? How can this site better help you? I look forward to hearing what you have to say.
