Consulting

Picture of JonathanEver since I founded Plagiarism Today in 2005, I have worked tirelessly to help content creators get the most out of their content. Over the past three years I have made my robust understanding of the laws, technologies and social norms in this field available to others, both for free on this site and in private to my clients.

Though I am not an attorney, I have striven to help my content creator clients develop reality-based strategies for protecting their work, detecting infringement and stopping abuse. I have consistently fought for the rights of my clients and worked to help them get back to doing what they do best, creating new and exciting works.

However, what separates me from other consultants is that I do not strive to keep clients forever. My goal is to give the people I work with the tools and techniques to protect themselves. Though I am always available if I can help, my sincere hope is that my clients will outgrow me and no longer need my services.

If you have an issue with content theft or copyright infringement. I am here to help. Likewise, if you are a company developing a product to help content creators protect, license or exploit their content, I can help you improve your product with feedback and testing that has been repeatedly described as “brutally honest”.

Here are just some of the services that I provide:

Content Strategy Development

If you are preparing to launch a Web site or are wanting to revise your content strategy on an existing one, I can help you devise a plan that will help you get the most from your hard work.

My strategies focus on a holistic approach that include everything from content licensing to copyright infringement cessation. My systems incorporate the latest tools and focus heavily on reducing the time spent dealing with copyright issues and maximizing the time spent creating and growing.

Copyright Infringement Resolution

If you are dealing with a difficult plagiarist or infringer and need help getting them to stop or mitigating the damage that they do, I can help.

I offer case analysis, research, strategy development and cessation activity (including, as needed, DMCA notices, cease and desist letters as appropriate) at a flat rate, as opposed to an hourly one. This ensures that you pay the same amount, regardless of how long the case takes.

Finally, I also work with a network of attorneys that I refer clients to should they need legal council.

Plagiarism Analysis

I also offer plagiarism analysis services and have worked with colleges, professors, students, businesses and writers to determine the likelihood, amount and severity of plagiarism.

In addition to using the latest in automated plagiarism detection tools, I bring with me years of experience in researching and fighting plagiarism as well as over a decade of experience as an author.

I am also available to serve as an expert witness if necessary and am available to travel.

Product Testing

If you’re developing a new copy detection tool, a licensing service or any other product that may help content creators protect or exploit their content, I can help test it and find the bugs before your end users do.

I have worked with a variety of companies in addressing a wide range of issues including usability, effectiveness as well as advice on cost and marketing.

Writing, Podcasting and Speaking

I am available for a limited number of guest blogging spots. I currently pen articles for the Blog Herald and the European Journalism Centre on a wide range of topics regarding media law, content strategies, the evolution of the Web and blogging in general.

I also co-host two different podcasts, the Copyright 2.0 Show and the WordPress Podcast and am available for additional engagements.

Finally, I am available to speak at conferences and seminars and am willing to travel. I have previously spoken at WordCamp Dallas, the 2008 SIPA Conference and the 3rd International Plagiarism Conference.

All totaled, I currently have the following engagements:

6 articles per week on Plagiarism Today (average)
1 article per week on the Blog Herald
1 article per week on the EJC Magazine Section
1 episode per week of the Copyright 2.0 Show
1 episode per week of the WordPress Podcast (irregular)
6 conferences/seminars per year

My Experience

Boston GlobeBelow is just a small sample of my highlights over the past few years.

  1. Have successfully resolved over 700 cases of plagiarism
  2. Spoken at conferences both in the U.S. and the UK
  3. Written over 1000 articles on the topics of copyright infringement, plagiarism and content theft.
  4. Appeared in nearly a dozen mainstream media publications including The Boston Globe, Christian Science Monitor, The Guardian, Dose Magazine and many others.

However, you don’t have to take my word for all of this, you can perform a Google search for my name (appending “plagiarism” to make sure it is me) and you’ll find hundreds of bloggers and other authors that have been helped by me and this site.

My Promise

If you give me the opportunity to assist you with your content-related needs, I, in turn, make several promises to you to help ensure that you get the most for your time and money.

  1. Reasonable Rates: I work hard to keep my rates both reasonable and flexible. I promise to work with you both on price and payment to help you get the service you need at a price you can afford.
  2. Firm Estimates: Many jobs are performed at a flat rate. However, for those that are performed hourly, I promise to provide a clear estimate and to stick to it. If the job expands or additional hours are needed, I will seek approval before performing the work and give you the opportunity to refuse or explore alternatives.
  3. Honest Advice, My Own Opinions: My advice, opinions and analysis will always be based upon the evidence I have, the tools I use and my experiences. I do not let any outside influences color my judgment nor do I receive any revenue from selling other people’s products or services to clients or on my site. On your time, I am on your side, it is that simple.
  4. Ease of Contact: If you need to get in touch with me, I am either an email or a phone call away. I can almost always be reached during regular business hours and, on appointment can be reached at other times, usually for no additional fee.
  5. Flexibility: If you have a need that doesn’t fit into any of the categories above, email me and I will see how I can help. I strive to provide flexible, friendly and consistent service tailored to what my clients need. Most of the services I provide were originally proposed by clients along the way and I am always eager to find new ways to help.

These are just some of the promises that I make to my clients everyday and part of the reason why I have many satisfied customers over the years.
