You Know, copyright protection, how about simplicity, like we want to to mars but tech has taken us there only in virtual , how about designing a mechanism that will establish and state life on mars before we get there, how about a straight rocket with a nose cone of stainless steel with a 4 inch tube down the centre , impact it into the surface of mars with the 200 feet rocket casing sticking out , inside nose cone put ingredient and microbes for life, now condensation will form inside the rocket casing. +200 day time -200 at nite But th wate will find its way to sub terrain, through nose cone, with added microbes, steam during the day, carbon for plant life, , like idea im in for 5% stock optrion if you patent idea, but you all get to read the idea, then when technology gets us to mars it actually might be inhabituable, my spelling needs help, John R Stender Canada

I agree about EXIF data completely. The problem is far too many image hosts and CMSes are stripping out the data when they resize the images to fit. WordPress included it appears. Usually the "full size" image preserves the EXIF data but this is something I've written about before.http://www.plagiarismtoday.com/2010/04/22/flick.....Still, there are many photographers who upload images the old fashioned way, such as FTP or even using a CDN, in those cases EXIF is preserved.Regarding MyFreeCopyright, it was third for a reason. I'm not fond of it and pretty much only recommend either Safe Creative or Myows. However I wanted to include it as it does still function, for me at least, and it is good of quick one-off registrations or to use with RSS. Still, I will openly admit its inclusion is dubious…Finally, regarding applications, I've talked about FastStone previously as well. The goal of this was to talk more about Web-based services so that people didn't have to download or install applications. I was thinking about scenarios where people were wanting to upload images they had just taken on a friend's laptop or a netbook.I may go back and do a software-oriented list as well, that one will definitely include FastStone.

Just a couple of observations. Firstly, writing to the EXIF data isn't a problem as there is software to do this. The problem is that when I upload my images to Wordpress, it deletes the EXIF data. I assume this is done as part of the "compression" process. I suspect other blog platforms do this too.Secondly, I am surprised to see you alluding to MyFreeCopyright as if it is still a functioning organization. It seems to be operating in Marie Celeste mode and does not acknowledge my many attempts to sign up and validate my account.I could also add that specialist software or online services are not required to watermark photos. This can be done easily, individually or in batch mode, by FastStone which, I imagine, many photo buffs will already be using.
