Just a point of clarification, in the U.S. at least, ACTA is not, currently, a treaty. Not only has nothing been agreed on, but technically it is considered an "executive agreement". This means that the Senate does not need to ratify ACTA but, as a counter-point, there can be no change to U.S. law as it exists. As a result, that takes 3 strikes off of the table at least for the U.S. and most other countries. I've been trying to bone up on my international trade law some in hopes of making real sense of it all and the more I read the less I worry.I might try to come back in a little while and write more on this, but I'm a fish out of water here trying to learn how to breathe...

The fact that ACTA is still in the early stages on negotiations is a bit of a relief. But still, I think that ACTA will become a law in the US and Canada no matter what anybody does or says. I can't understand companies protecting their work from being stolen, but being accused 3 times without proof of copyright infringement and having your internet cut off permanently is insane. What's worse, there's no way to prove your innocence. Considering how this treaty is held in secret, how far are these governments willing to go to protect these mega corps? Will the police be forced to do "digital drug busts"?
