I am trying to setup a website and would like to embed an utility to catch when someone is posting the same message several times with the intent of spamming the site. Is there any utility outhere that I can find, incl. shareware?

First and foremost, it is worth noting that Craigslist does have a DMCA agent. You can reach them by using their abuse@ account. I have not filed a takedown notice with them so I can't comment on the timeframe, but on other abuse issues i've reported to Craigslist there has always been a quick response.

You can also attempt to "flag" the entry though that system requires multiple users to agree with you.

With Craiglist I would first file a C&D letter with the poster, since they provide an email address with the post and, failing that, file a takedown of it. Keep filing takedown notices if needed as Craigslist will have to ban a repeat infringer.

That is the best advice I can give without knowing more.

Thanks so very much for this very useful post. I have filed four DMCA take down notices this year. That's the easy part. The More difficult part was getting some one to stop using my content in ads that they were running on Craigslist and Backpage.

This jerk did not understand copy law. He finally relented after I suggested that I wanted to drop by his home and discuss this in person. That was easy as he listed his address on his website and he lives in the same city. How do you deal with people like him that are using sites like Craigslist and posting your material?
