I agree that more awareness and information is important, however, that isn't what Chilling Effects is about. Its more of a repository designed to help study and understand the law. All private information, both filer and customer, are removed. All that's left is the URLs, titles and body of the notice.Still, it does make a point that there are things that can be done and, in that regard, can be a very powerful education tool...

This news is great news! The reason plagiarism is so rampant, is because the victims either give up too soon, or are afraid of "going public". The plagiarist counts on this.Every little step that is made in trying to make a dent in the problem is important. More awareness and diligence is the key.

I'm glad to see others coming out in support of public display of DMCA notices. I don't know if it is so much because many think it is uncool, I've noticed that whether copyright enforcement is popular or not has more to do with who is on which side of the complaint than the actual law, but that is an article for another day.As far as the site in question goes, it works great for works that have been registered with the Copyright Office but not so well for those that haven't as well as those that aren't textual in nature. Technology is advancing though and services such as c-registry.us may make things easier in the long run. We need a more robust solution to finding copyright holders, that much is certain...

I agree completely that people should have the guts to be comfortable having their DMCA notices displayed to the public. I feel like a lot of people are afraid to have their name on the plaintiff end of a DMCA notice because, face it, issuing a copyright notice is "uncool." But copyright is necessary, especially on this internet full of plagiarism and spam blogs. I think there need to be more copyright research sites out there like http://www.copyrightsearch.org - that are easy to use and that allow people to see if something is copyrighted before they use it.
