Google Similar Images has clearly changed the way we think about online pictures – allowing everyone greater access to the Web’s multitude of photographs. Unfortunately, Similar Images and other such search capabilities don’t solve the problem of copyright and intellectual property issues. Issues that have lead to infringement cases in the past. This is why, if you are a frequent online-picture user, (design or advertisement and other creative industries especially) you should head over to http://imagex.picscout.com/Download/Register, (homepage: http://www.picscout.com/) to sign up for the beta edition of PicScout’s innovative ImageExchange technology, and leave infringement issues in the past.

As you covered in another column, if Google had PicScout ImageExchange all those similar images would be distinguished by those with rights information easily accessible. This could make a big difference to image buyers when they make their actual selection of an image to use. http://tinyurl.com/yzs238c

Hopefully, as detection gets easier, giving credit for artwork will become a more standard practice...

Thanks! I just grabbed a copy of the software and am going to try it out in just a bit, this sounds very exciting. I find it interesting though that it can use Yahoo! but not Google. It's not a problem though since the databases will be comparable...
