In the case of LJ and Myspace, I always go over the user head. I make it a rule not to set up accounts anymore just to stop plagiarists, I did that for a long time and ended up with a database of about 25 unused accounts. Too much stress. Both of those sites have solid DMCA procedures that work well.

To answer your question, yes, they are. The DMCA states that they are obligated, if they want safe harbor protection, to both register with the USCO AND post the information on their own site. Some do one or the other but, generally, every host *should* have one or the other. Needless to say, it doesn't always work out that way.

Hope that helps!

I've fixed it now, I tested a new blog editor last night that apparently both overwrote the previous post AND screwed up the HTML. Note to self, no more reckless testing of software...

I am constantly frustrated by networks that don't allow me to contact the abusing users directly (livejournal, myspace, forums, blogher) without an account. Instead I have to either create an account just to post a message or use their private messaging system. Or, as you say, go over their head to the host because I can't be bothered to navigate their systems.

Question (kind of unrelated): are all hosts obligated to post DMCA information in some form or another?
