Hi,

This was a thorough review, but some of the points minorly misrepresent the Voxant offering. I was hoping to add a comment that might clarify some of the "caveats and concerns".

Voxant provides content that is licensed, and in order to satisfy the terms of that license, advertisement is part of the package in almost all cases. The comparison to free YouTube content which does not contain advertising is a little bit of an apples-to-oranges evaluation.

Advertisement, however brief, has been and remains a primary revenue source driving most video formats. In return for displaying the Voxant player, the registered user who embedded the player is paid a revenue share.

It is really the best of both worlds for those who want video content to help retain users. Not only is it free, quality content, but it pays. Users who do not register have no means of being paid (since there is no contact information for them). That does not, however, release Voxant from the obligations of packaging content with advertising. Embedding YouTube video has no such restrictions, but the distinction should be clear by now between free and licensed.

Thanks for your review!

Michael

I'm glad that you like the system and you're welcome for the review. I'll pass along your problem with their support team. It is a great service and I was very happy to have had the chance to talk with them about it!

Thanks for this review. My company provides systems and hosting for the online editions of community newspapers, and Voxant is now providing the most reasonable access to video news for those online newspapers. Community news publishing is going to continue to publish primarily local news but it is clearly beginning to include a broader news base and in my opinion Voxant's model is ideal for serving these small to medium size newspapers who have 1000 to 10000 hits a day. The only problem that I have with them is that they seem to ignore their support requests.
