Scrapping email is actually very fast. Considering that you gather more than thousands of active email addresses or those still in use, then it is all worth your extra time. This will actually get the job done way faster. Besides, you will not be able to gather as many emails as what you get from scraping of email addresses.

Cybele: Exactly. I mentioned it briefly in the post but the confirmation link has to be clicked from the block as it will be pulled down as a new post. The post has to then be deleted. All services, if they are going to reply with CANSPAM, have to do this.

I can help you with the Blogspot ones, look for anything with this format (name.gibberish@blogger.com) and you should have someone trying to scrape via RSS. However, I doubt they're going to be dumb enough to use FeedBurner, they're going to use a third party service such as SendMeRSS where it isn't a glowing red flag to you.

Then again, I might be overestimating the scrapers here... Wouldn't be the first time.

Feedburner's subscribe by email makes the end user click through a confirmation. Is that what they'd do, pull the confirmation into a "post" and then click on it from there?Feedburner allows me to see all of the subscribers. Perhaps if I knew the construction or domain of these email addresses I could do a periodic search. (If the scrapers were smart they'd filter out that footer that allows you to unsub though.)
