Redivide: It depends on what Whois you're talking about. IP whois is much different, and more useful in this case, than domain whois. The latter, however, is more common. It only tells you the name of the person who registered the domain, not where the site is hosted.

Regarding your second statement, that is your opinion. But there is a vast difference to most between the remix and mashup culture than widespread verbatim copying. One shows a great deal of creativity and unique thought, the other shows none. Regarding the difference between Techorati and spam blogs, the difference is more in how they treat the content they use. Technorati, Google and so forth only display small portions and make their living off adding the service of sorting and organizing such data.

Spam blogs, on the other hand, regurgitate entire works and make their living trying to trick the aforementioned search engines. One adds a service to the Web, the other does not. Once again, big difference.

Thank you very much for your comment!

I always used whois and I'm pretty sure that site does too. No other tools needed!

Plagiarism and content theft do not have the same meaning for me anymore. Mashups are everywhere and the diference between a splog running a RSS import script and technorati.com, for example, seems to me to be an issue of respectability alone.
