Weekend Linkroll – Backfire

By Jonathan Bailey • Jan 19th, 2008 • Category: Articles, Linkblog

ScrabulousIt has been another big week for copyright news. The Church of Scientology gets a taste of its own medicine, Time Warner tries out a new payment plan designed to deter downloading and a forest leveled all in the name of attacking The Pirate Bay.

And that’s just the beginning.

Remember, as usual, this week’s linkroll is a “raw” link list. Some stories are duplicated, some do not point to their original sources and some may not be accurate. A great deal of refining goes into producing the show notes for the Copyright 2.0 Show.

  • "Ford: Car owners are pirates if they distribute pictures of their own cars"

All I have to say is.. .WTF?!
  • Valerie: Let me assure you that you were not the only one saying that...
  • I found the two links to the Scientology sites absolutely fascinating. Or should I say, hilarious! What is your reaction, Jonathan, the common man's reaction, not the plagiarism consultant? One better, the Ford story. Valerie, here is proof that there is at least another one to say the same thing, perhaps even more colorfully.
  • RS: My non-professional opinion of Scientology is one of great concern. Looking over the history of scientology and how they've hurt people, both members and detractors, bled people dry financially and even been responsible for at least a pair of deaths, I genuinely worry about the faith and those who are in it.

Poking fun as Scientology is both deserved and fun, but there are a lot of people that are very seriously hurt by this organization.

I guess, in a strange way, I hope that by making fun of and belittling the organization we can prevent good people from getting caught up in it and help people. It is a strange situation where humor might save lives.

    Strange thought isn't it?
  • What you say is shocking. I did not know that this was the situation. I thought that these guys were simply harmless nuts. Where can I get more actual information? Their website does not offer much.
  • I have been referred to Clambake and a cursory peep seems to open up a pandora's box! Wow.
  • RS: Operation Clambake is the site was going to recommend but you beat me to it. For those who are reading this but haven't seen the site, it is http://www.xenu.net/. I found the tale of Lisa McPherson especially damming.
