I agree that things have again taken a turn at Blogspot and it appears that Google is once again largely tolerating spam on the service. They seem to go through a pattern where they attack and then retreat from spam on the service.

Considering that they likely run the service at a loss, I can’t see them investing heavily to make it spam free. They just try to keep it out of their index and hope for the best.

Sadly, that seems to be their MO lately.

I’m trying to optimise a site for Network equipment. One of the things I like to do is to basically ’sanitise’ blog catagories that I’m trying to optimise for to help knock out my aggressively black hat competitors. Here is a good example of a spam blog in my category –

I complained to Wordpress about similar blogs and they took them down. I have repeatedly reported similar blogs to Blogger but to no effect. This is really dissappointing coming from Google’s own blog platform. This basically leaves me in a situation where I choose to get hosed by my competitors or choose to join them in spamming Blogger.

My principle of spam.

‘SPAM’ + ‘Reporting Spam’ WHERE != ‘taken down’ -> ‘More Spam’

That’s an algorithm that should be in all blog services.
